Certain 22-year-old David Maduabuchi of No. 16, Chukwu Onovo Street, Okpoko, Anambra State, has been arrested by the Police for alleged Facebook fraud.
According to a statement, on Tuesday, by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, the suspect specialises on swindling vulnerable youngsters, particularly teenage girls on Facebook and hoodwink them into stealing from their parents and guardians for him.
It was gathered that between March and November 2019, the suspect lured certain Ogechi Miracle ‘f’ aged 18-year-old and 18-year-old Chinansa Peter on Facebook under false pretences of marrying them.
The statement partly reads: “It wouldbe recalled that on the 07/11/2019 at about 7:pm, Police detectives attached to Awada Division arrested one David Maduabuchi ‘m’ aged 22years of No 16 Chukwu Onovo street, Okpoko.
“Suspect specialises on swindling vulnerable youngsters particularly teenage girls on Facebook and hoodwink them into stealing from their parents and guardian for him (the suspect).
“Preliminary investigation revealed that between the months of March, 2019 and November, 2019, the suspect lured one Ogechi Miracle ‘f’ aged 18 years and Chinansa Peter ‘f’ aged 18yrs on Facebook under false pretences of marrying them.
“Victims were further tutored by the suspect and they both stole the sums of three hundred and eighteen thousand naira (N318,000) and one hundred thousand Naira (N100,000) respectively at different times from their parents, as well as laptop computers which theyhanded over to him.”
Mohammed said case is under investigation after which suspect would be charged to court for prosecution.
Meanwhile, police detectives attached to Awada Division has recovered a Lexus 330 Jeep, Reg NO AKL 189 NH allegedly snatched at gun point fron one Anselem Enwereji in December of 2018 at Ayagbadi, Lagos State.
The recovery was made following an intelligence report received by police detectives in Awada Division.
The PPRO said that two suspects who were arrested in connection with the case have made useful statements to the police adding that the case will be handed over to Ajangbadi Division, Lagos State Command where the offence took place for further investigation and prosecution.
Similarly, Police detectives attached to Harbour Division recovered a Toyota Hiaice bus allegedly stolen at the premises of Osun State Board of internal revenue, Osun State.
The Bus which was formerly white in colour has been repainted and registered with Onitsha South LGA of Anambra State.
According to Mohammed, one suspect was arrested in possession of the vehicle and case is under investigation.
