A six-year old girl, Uchechukwu Onyibor has become the first casualty of the attack by suspected herdsmen at Eke, Udi LGA, Enugu State.
Uchechukwu died Tuesday night from gunshot wounds she sustained during the attack. She was in the company of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Onyibor when they were attacked. Her mother who also sustained a head injury, was said to be on danger list as at press time.
The condition of her father could not be ascertained. It was gathered that the father of the deceased, works at Ecobank as a Manager.
Ebere Amaraizu, the Police Public Relations Officer in Enugu State, confirmed the report.
“I have just received the report that the girl is dead. It is unfortunate. But I can assure you that the perpetrators of this heinous crime will soon be arrested,” Amaraizu said.
It was gathered that efforts were being made to bury the little girl on Wednesday. Uchechukwu and her parents were on the way to their Oma Eke country home when the suspected herdsmen came out of the bush and attacked them.
The incident happened on Sunday evening at Isigwu road, going to Oma Eke, off Eke-Egede road.
Eke is the hometown of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geofrey Onyeama and Director General, Voice of Nigeria, Osita Okechukwu. (Daily Independent)
