Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra South senatorial district held a meeting last week to thinker ways of restoring unity to the party before the next governorship election slated for 2021.
Addressing the stakeholders recently in Nnewi, the Anambra State Vice Chairman, South, Nze Marcel Joachim Anyiam, regretted that the party in the zone have not been able to find a common ground that is generally accepted as a means or strategy to winning elections.
He described the issue as a cog in the wheel of progress of the party in the zone, even as he called on party faithful in the state to place the interest of the party above personal interests.
Anyiam said that since power belongs to the people, the leadership of the party should henceforth ensure that the people are always allowed to speak through their votes.
“The abysmal performance of PDP in the zone in the last National and State Assembly elections clearly established the fact that all is not well for the party in the zone. This has been a major source of concern for the executive council of PDP in the zone,” Anyiam said.
He identified lack of a zonal office of the party in Anambra South district, lack of branded vehicle and other logistics as hindrances to the smooth running of the party in the zone.
Earlier In his speech, the State chairman of PDP, Hon Ndubuisi Nwobu, reiterated the executive’s commitment to ensure a free, fair, transparent and credible party primary is conducted for all aspirants.
He insisted that the party cannot afford not to get it right this time saying that the people of the state are now looking up to the party for salvation from the maladministration and bad governance forced on them by the APGA government.
Nwobu called on all hands to be on the deck to ensure victory for PDP during the 2021 Anambra governorship election in the state.
