Kenyas former President Daniel arap Moi
Kenya’s former President Daniel arap Moi is currently on life support in a Kenyan hospital, with doctors fighting to save his life, according to a report by a local tabloid.
This is the second time in two weeks that the 95-year-old former head of state has been taken to hospital for medical check-up for, Daily Nation newspaper reports.
His spokesman said the 95-year-old had been taken to a top private hospital in the capital, Nairobi, for a “routine check-up”.
“It is prudent and advisable that everybody should go for medical check-up, so Mzee Moi went for a medical check-up,” Mr Moi’s Press Secretary, Lee Njiru, is quoted by the paper as saying.
The Daily Nation, quoting a family source, also reports that Mr Moi was rushed to the hospital on Saturday after developing “breathing complications”.
The information was however denied by another family member, it adds.
Another local paper, The Star, reports that the former president is “in critical condition” saying in a front page rider that he is “on life support in hospital as doctors fight to save his life.”
One of the best known African leaders during his time in office, arap Moi was Kenya’s second President and the longest serving, occupying the exalted office for 24 years –from 1978 to 2002.
