PDP VP Candidate Peter Obi
Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2019 elections, Mr Peter Obi, has called on Nigerians to always pray for those in authority to be responsible enough to utilise public money for the benefit of the masses.
Speaking on Sunday in Awka during a thanksgiving service for the lawmaker representing Anambra senatorial zone, Senator Uche Ekwunife, Obi described the senator as a go-getter, saying: “If you go anywhere with Uche, you are sure.”
“I appeal to you people to always pray for those in authority so they stop diverting public money but rather use it to work for the masses that voted them into such offices. Public money should be used to serve the public and not otherwise,” Obi, who is the immediate past governor of Anambra State, said.
In his speech, the state chairman of PDP, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, said that his party is not swayed by the antics of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to persuade the electorate to vote for it during the 2021 governorship election in the state.
He vowed that PDP is set to take over the reins of the state from APGA saying that not even APC's-led federal government will be able to scuttle the victory that awaits the party come 2021.
Nwobu stressed that with the structure in place, the party is ready to take the bull by the horn in the forthcoming polls.
He said: “We are sure that we will come out victorious during the election, but it will be a very tough contest, we will not be intimidated with what the ruling APGA is doing to remain in power. We will remain united and forge ahead because PDP as a party, is the last hope for the Ndi Anambra.
“We are aware that APGA is working to remain in power in Anambra, but we have put in place measures to stop that. Victory is ahead of us but it will be hotly contested, but by the grace of Almighty God we will emerge victorious.”
Addressing the mammoth crowd that gathered at the Ekwueme Square, Sen Uche Ekwunife hailed the Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, for introducing her into politics.
She said that through every thick and thin in her political career, her husband, Lawrence Ekwunife, has never relented in giving her all the support she needed.
The lawmaker assured the people of her zone that she will not fail to attract every necessary dividend to the zone.
Her words: “I do believe that there is a great cause to praise God for giving me the grace to legislate the affairs of the good people of Anambra Central Senatorial District.
“Indeed, it is the Lord’s doing and it is marvelous in our eyes.”
Apart from Mr. Peter Obi, personalities who were present at the event include Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki; Ondo State Deputy Governor, Mr. Agboola Ajayi; Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu; and Clerk of the National Assembly (Senate), Senator Matthew Urhoghide.
Others include former governor of old Anambra State, Dr Chukwumeka Ezeife; a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Johnbosco Onunkwo; Hon. Okwudili Ezenwankwo; Hon. Ifeanyi Ibezi; traditional rulers, the clergy, and party supporters across the Central Senatorial District, among other persons.
