Anambra Works Commissioner, Engr Ifejiofor, addressing the press
The Anambra Commissioner for Works, Engr. Marcel Ifejiofor, has declared that his ministry will not hesitate to sack any contractor or staff member that errs in the course of carrying out their jobs on the state roads.
Making the declaration on Wednesday, Ifejiofor said that since he took over the running of the ministry, three people have been sacked for failing to do their job accordingly.
His words: “Under my watch, it’s no longer business as usual. You either do the job you are employed to do or get kicked out. I am always monitoring the road works and rehabilitations going on in the state. I must tell you, everyone is on their toes to avoid being caught napping.
“The rain is gradually going and as soon as it stops completely, we will work assiduously to ensure the rehabilitation are done in December. For a fact, (Governor) Willie (Obiano) is working. The entire Anambra State has been mapped out for rehabilitation and before Christmas, the roads will be fixed.
“Nothing below standard will be done under my watch. The contractors will deliver according to specifications.”
Ifejiofor explained that thirteen contractors have been mapped out to handle the road rehabilitation process in Anambra North and South while Anambra Central will be shared would be shared between the Ministry of Works and Anambra Maintenance Agency (AMA).
He named the contracting firms to include IDC, BRECO, New Idea, SIVA Construction, PACHOKS Engineering, and TAMAD.
Others are Nigeria Army Engineers, FILIPE Associates International, Kannobin, Cotabs Fancee, FCC and Twanco.
According to the Commissioner, the state apart from having aluvial soil has poorly constructed drainages which has adversely affected the roads.
He also said that one of the major causes of the failure of the roads in the state is because of the failed federal roads which led to trailers diverting into state road which were not built to carry their weight.
Ifejiofor added that work is already underway in some of the state roads with a view to barricading them from trailers that cause damage to the roads.
