Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Amba Asuquo
The Ekiti State Police Command has revealed it has arrested no fewer than 12 suspected cultists in Osekita area along Iworoko road of the state capital.
The Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) of the command, Caleb Ikechukwu, in a statement made available to Tribune Online in Ado-Ekiti, on Thursday, said the suspects are students of the Ekiti State University.
He added that they were arrested on Wednesday by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS) while performing initiation for some members.
Ikechukwu who said the suspects confessed to be members of ‘Aiye’ confraternity disclosed that they would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
” The suspects were arrested in the act of performing cult initiation activities in Osekita Area off Iworoko Ekiti State.
“They confessed to be members of ‘AIYE’ confraternity and students of Ekiti State University.
” Exhibits found on them at the time of the arrest include two live cartridges, two battle axes, one hammer, one cutlass, two black berets, seven pieces of suspected fake 100 US dollars, wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp,” the statement read in part.
The PPRO stressed that the commissioner of police, Amba Asuquo, has called on parents to monitor their wards in higher institutions and instill proper values in them. (Tribune Online)
