Governor Obiano
A good governance organisation, the Godwin Ezeemo Voter Education Foundation (GEVEF), has sent a Save-Our-Souls message to Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, and Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Uche Okafor, appealing for the urgent creation of a Ministry of Emergency Affairs for the state.
The appeal is contained in a letter to both men dated 21 October, 2019.
“We wish to use this opportunity to make an S.O.S appeal to His Excellency the Executive Governor and the Honourable Speaker and members of Anambra State House of Assembly to as a matter of urgency create the Ministry of Emergency Affairs with the mandate to manage and quickly respond to the emergency disasters of petrol tanker accidents, all other fire outbreaks, flood control, erosion control, and all other disaster management,” GEVEF said in the letter.
The group commiserated with the Government and people of Anambra State, “especially the affected victims and their families on the two recent unfortunate petrol tanker fire accidents at Onitsha, the commercial nerve centre of Anambra State.”
It noted that “fire accidents are not new to Anambra State and even all over the world including the United States,” adding: “So, as an unforeseen accident, it is not something to play politics with. We condemn those criticizing the Anambra State Government on the unfortunate petrol tanker fire accident.”
