Workers of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDC) have staged a showdown against the hand-over of the company to its new owners.
Text messages were sent to workers yesterday to converge at the zonal office at NEPA Round About where the gate of the head office would be locked to stall the hand-over.
Some union officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the showdown would continue until all conditions and some outstanding allowances owed workers are paid.
The text sent to workers reads: “Gdmornin how r u &family? i pray well. Pls there is nd 4all staffs 2b @d zonal office, it will b locked up due to some unagreed point wit mgt.7am 2day.”
The Nigeria Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) had yesterday sent notice of meeting to all members by 8:00 a.m. today.
Executives of NUEE and many members have already positioned themselves outside the closed gate of the Zonal office when our reporter visited the office around 7:20 a.m.
The Managing Director, Alh Idris D. Mohammed and the Manager, Public Affairs, Malam Idris Mohammed, did not respond to text messages sent to them as at the time of filling this report.
