At the conclusion of the works of the volunteer medical campaign by the Kingdom of SaudiArabia to combat blindness and its causes in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, 8,000 patients were diagnosed ,treated and administered medication.
A statement by the Ambassador of Saudi to Nigeria, Mr. Adnan Bostaji, shortly after the conclusion of the exercise on Friday, said the exercise is funded by King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, in collaboration with Al-Basar International Foundation.
He also stated that 694 surgeries were done to remove cataract and glaucoma, alongside other minor surgical operations.
The Ambassador added that more than 1,000 reading glasses were distributed to patients.
“The surgery operations were done by a number of consultants, surgeons and ophthalmologists.
“This campaign comes to strengthen and enhance the excellent historical ties between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which are based on friendliness and mutual cooperation,” he said.
Mr. Bostaji extended his gratitude and to Nigerian authorities, comprising of the Government and the private sector, for their cooperation with the organisers of this campaign and for making their task successful, as well as for accomplishing the campaign’s humanitarian goal.
