Late last month, theHeadies Award– formerly called Hip Hop World Award – released a list of nominees and possible winners of their award in different categories come October 19 at the Eko Convention Center.
Ever since they released the list and names of music acts up for nomination, several uproars have aroused, especially as regards having Zlatan – king of the Zanku dance – under theNext Ratedcategory.
Many believe that Omoniyi Temidayo, popular Zlatan, shouldn’t be in the category, especially because they believe he has put out projects concrete enough to take him into higher categories in the past year.
Others nominated for theNext Ratedaward are Mavin record’s Rema, Empawa’s Joeboy, YBNL’s Fireboy and Lyta.
Judging from popular opinions on social media, Zlatan is ahead of the rest of the names as regards their career and public acceptance. Next to him – they say – is Divine Ikubor (popular, Rema) who recently dropped an EP titled ‘Bad Commando’.
However, die-hard fans of Joeboy and Fireboy believe that if the Headies’ Award was to assess talent and passion for the art, either of these two should bag the recognition.
Social media have become battlegrounds and the warriors are not the competitors, but lovers of their music. If only they (the fans) could realise that the highest they can do is to keep their fingers crossed and allow the Headies’ do the selecting.
