Ibrahim Magu, Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said the Commission is currently investigating Abba Yaro, Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue state.
The Chairman also said the Commission has recovered millions of naira from members of the 8th Assembly in the state out of the N750 million which were for the purchase of vehicles, but was misappropriated by the leadership of the house.
Magu made this known while fielding questions from newsmen at the Zonal Office of the Commission in Makurdi on Monday, while soliciting journalists in the state to assist the Commission in it’s fight against corruption.
While Daily Independent findings reveal that the EFCC in Benue may have seized properties belonging to the party chairman which were from proceeds of corruption, Magu insisted that Yaro’s properties were not seized.
He however stated that the EFCC were investigating some properties allegedly belonging to the party chairman and that until it concludes it’s investigations, it was not time to seize the properties.
Magu also reiterated that the EFCC would not spare anyone, irrespective of political leaning and no matter how highly placed, adding that the fear factor instilled in the heart of many has reduced corruption to some extent.
According to him, “This (fight against corruption) is no longer business as usual, it is no longer as reckless as it used to be.
“In our fight against corruption as long as you are corrupt we will go after you. And that’s what we do. You can see the two governors (Jolly Nyame and Joshua Daria) who were convicted, they are from APC. So, it is not an issue of politics.
