Ex-Governor Ibori
Ahead of the 2023 governorship election, the former governor of Delta State, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, and other political leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, Delta Central are appealing to other senatorial districts in the state to allow Urhobo to produce the next PDP governor.
The PDP stakeholders meeting, which was summoned and held at the country home of the former governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori, Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, was to appeal to other senatorial districts to allow Urhobo to produce the next governor.
The meeting held that the zoning and the rotational system as introduced by the former governor, Chief James Ibori, be followed, hence there is an appeal to other senatorial districts, mostly the Ijaw nation, to allow Urhobo come 2023.
It was learnt that the appeal to other PDP senatorial leaders became necessary owing to the fact that there is a perceived gang-up between the North and South senatorial districts against Central to shift power to one of the ethnic nationality from the Delta South Senatorial District.
This fear, according to one of the political leaders, said the perceived gang-up had led to Ibori and other leaders of the party cautioning all Urhobo PDP political class to be mindful of any inciting statements or words on other senatorial districts of the state, mostly, the Ijaw extraction of the Delta South Senatorial District, so that Delta Central is allowed to produce the next governor come 2023.
Ibori, while pleading with other senatorial districts to support them come 2023, said the fact remains that no senatorial district is an island, saying what Urhobo needs to do at this moment is to plead, beg other senatorial districts, ethnic groups and clans to support them.
Others who spoke at the meeting; Prof Sam Oyovbaire, Chief Ighoyota Amori, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, Chief A. P. Fovie, Chief Emmanuel Okumagba, among others, also pleaded with the other ethnic nationalities outside Delta Central to allow it have its fair share of the rotation since Sen. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa was already completing the turn of Delta North. (The Nation)
