A security aide in the convoy of the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumin Kabir Usman, shot an unidentified person Saturday evening in the Ungwan Rimi area of Kaduna, capital of neighbouring Kaduna State.
Eyewitnesses said the convoy was on its way from the Polo Club at Murtala Square around 5:47 p.m. when the unidentified man jumped on the vehicle in which the Emir was riding.
“He tried to glue himself to the vehicle which the Emir occupied in the convoy. His security aide shot the unidentified man on his ribs and he was rushed to Garkuwa Hospital,” one source said.
Sources at Garkuwa Hospital, along Sultan Road in Ungwan Rimi confirmed to News Express that the assailant died 10 minutes later.
“His Royal Highness was at the hospital at the time the unidentified man died,” the source said.
A security source who spoke to our reporter said the assailant was a son of an Imam in Ungwan Dosa, a suburb in Kaduna.
Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Aminu Lawal, when contacted yesterday said he would get back to our reporter with details of the incident but did not do so as at the time of filling this report.
