Two persons were shot dead in Umuahia by a four-man robbery gang who stormed a popular Pharmacy Shop in the Abia State capital.
The dare-devil robbers who struck at about 8pm last Monday reportedly carted away unspecified sum of money.
Reports reaching Transport & Business Express said that the robbers arrived at the pharmacy in a red Toyota Camry car and began shooting sporadically into the air to scare people and in the process killed a customer and staff of the pharmacy. It was gathered that one of the victims died instantly while the other was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre where he died the next day.
An eyewitness told Transport & Business Express that there was commotion when the robbers commenced operation as people ran in different directions for their dear lives. The pharmacy was still under lock and key as at the time Transport & Business Expressvisited.
Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) Onyeke Ezekiel, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), confirmed the incident. He said no arrests had been made but assured of the preparedness of the Police and other security agencies to weed out criminals from Abia.
