Gunmen on rampage at Edo lawmakers’ quarters •Oshiomhole alleges plot to make state ungovernable

Some unknown hoodlums have attacked the Edo State House of Assembly Quarters in Ihama GRA, Benin City, destroying several cars and other properties.

Some of the lawmakers told Channels Television yesterday that the gunmen came in the morning, over-powered the security men at the premises gates to gain access, destroying about 30 cars belonging to the lawmakers.

They said the hoodlums also attempted to gain entrance into some of the houses with an obvious intent to kill, as they were shooting sporadically in the air and at the buildings.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole has described the attack as a dangerous ploy by some people in the state to make it ungovernable. He made the statement during an on-the-spot assessment tour of the quarters.

There have been factional crises in the State’s House of Assembly. It started after four lawmakers were suspended for gross misconduct and other allegations.
