Popular musician slumps during meeting, dies

Late reggae act Christopher Etuk aka Skankin Master

A renowned performing musician in Akwa Ibom State has passed on to the great beyond and the entire entertainment sector in the oil-rich state has been thrown into mourning.

Christopher Etuk, popularly known by his stage name, Skankin Master, reportedly slumped a few days to the last gubernatorial elections while in a meeting to plan electioneering campaign for a particular governorship candidate in the state(name withheld by us), along with his fellow entertainers.

Informed sources have it that the light-skinned reggae artiste who relocated with his family to his home state from his former base in Enugu State took an excuse to ease himself in the restroom during the meeting attended by other musicians including the lead singer in the defunct Mandators group, Victor Eshiet, when he slumped.

“He was immediately rushed to a private hospital but was referred to the Specialist Hospital where he was admitted,” said our source.

“But Etuk gave up the ghost after about four days,” the source added.

Some top entertainers in the state who spoke toMaggie’s Blogsaid the death of the 48-year-old musician will create a vacuum which will be difficult to fill in the local entertainment sector.

“Skankin Master was an embodiment of entertainment. In a short while of returning to the state from Enugu where he lived for many years with his family, he won for himself numerous fans with his scintillating performances. We shall all miss him very dearly,” said George Emah a.k.a King George who is generally referred to as the Godfather of Entertainment in Akwa Ibom State.

Also speaking, Andy Johnson, a renowned music producer and engineer in the state, said the dead musician was always a great delight whenever he was on stage to perform.

“He was a powerful singer and great performer. The vacuum his death has created will be difficult to fill. He will be missed by his teeming fans and all of us,” said Johnson.

The remains of the late musician will return to mother earth on Thursday, May 2.
