“Nigeria is a colourful combination of cultures and landscapes, a place that fully embraces its African heritage and celebrates its diversity adding that the Nigerian telecom industry has helped in many diverse ways to boost the Nigerian cultural heritage. It is noteworthy that for close to two decades now, the Nigerian Telecommunications Industry received a boom with the introduction of the Global System for mobile Communication (GSM). From then till date, everything we do in Nigeria revolves around the telecom industry.
“Everyone irrespective of age, social status and even literacy level, go about with mobile phones and connect to global debates. Telecommunications has positively changed our ways of living – the way we think, relate and transact businesses. This has been made pronounced with the global acceptance of the social media which is powered by the IT/Telecom industry, hence the need to celebrate it,” he said.
Elder Dede Kalu, Managing Director/CEO of DAK Marketing Services Limited at the forum, expressed his delight on the Miss Telecom Nigeria concept saying that the overall winner will represent the face of the Nigerian telecom industry.
He said: “There is no gainsaying the fact that the Nigerian telecom industry has contributed immensely to Nigerian growth. The industry has supported Nigerian culture of hard work and self-reliant as seen in the growth of many businesses that are offshoots of the telecommunication industry. The industry has done so well, contributing over 5.5 percent of the country’s GDP and significantly grown the economy in numerous other ways. Miss Telecom, therefore, shall be presented as a pageant that celebrates our rich cultural beliefs and heritage and the Nigerian telecom industry.”
The Chief Organiser added that auditioning shall hold in seven major cities in Nigeria including Calabar, Enugu, Port Harcourt, Owerri, Benin City, Abuja and Lagos. It is a call therefore to interested contestants to obtain their forms at these locations. He further invoked the support of corporate organisations, high net worth individuals and governments at all levels for sponsorship as the event promises to be a gathering of who-is-who in the industry and beyond.
