A young female student said to be an undergraduate of the University of Ibadan (UI) and identified as Baliqs Olajumoke Adeniyi, on Friday morning died in an auto crash involving a tricycle, popularly called Keke Marwa, and a waste disposal truck in Ibadan, the Oyo state.
The incident, it was gathered occurred around 9.20 am at Leventis bus stop, along Sango-UI road, Ibadan.
An eyewitness informed that Miss Adeniyi, who was said to be returning from a bank, was discovered to be a student of the University of Ibadan when an identity card of the institution was found on her.
Two other victims who had fractures in their heads and legs were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The sources informed that the accident was caused by a bin disposal truck parked on the road.
According to the eyewitness account, a tricycle with number plate RU 152 UP ran into the waste disposal truck with an inscription on it which reads “MARC LAMMERTYN.”
Also according to sources, “The lady was coming from GTBank at Ajibade bus stop where she went to pay her school fees. Her phone and bag were recovered and this was what made it easy for us to know that she was a student.”
Spokesman of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in the state, Mr Oluwaseun Onijla, who confirmed the incident promised to send full details of the incident, but was yet to do so as of at the time of filing this report.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr Gbenga Fadeyi, who also confirmed the incident, said “an investigation is ongoing on the cause of the accident.” (Nigerian Tribune)
