Omotola reveals how she almost lost her daughter to death

•Screen goddess Omotola Jalade Ekeinde

For the first time, Nigeria’s screen goddess, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, has disclosed how medical doctors had written off her first child, Princess when she was almost paralysed as a child as a result of sickness.

According to the star actress, it’s a miracle that her daughter who turned 22 on March 30 is alive today.

Narrating how it all happened, Omotola said: “She (Princess) was barely a year old, she started running temperature. Can’t remember how many hours anymore. She is our first child and we had not much experience.

“We gave her some medication but she didn’t seem to get better. Suddenly she slipped into what seemed to be a coma.”

The star actress said this caused panic among herself, her pilot husband Matthew and neighbours around.

According to her, people made various suggestions on how to handle the situation. As Princess was clenching her teeth fiercely, she said an elderly woman in the neighborhood asked her to put a spoon and pour salt into the child’s mouth.

“We rushed her to the hospital, and at first the doctors were a bit reluctant. I guess they thought it was a lost case. However, almost without much hurry, she was worked on and miraculously, she came back,” she narrated.

Omotola said the doctors diagnosed “high fever”. According to her, the verdict by the medical personnel was that the sickness had affected her daughter’s brain, as such she would not develop normal and wouldn’t be able to catch up with her peers, short of being a vegetable.

At this point, the Ondo State-born movie star said she turned to God for a miracle.

“As people of faith, we called on God, used proper medication, and most importantly applied extra lessons and treated her normal like others.”

Omotola is happy that today, after passing through so many huddles, that child that the world had lost hope on, has not only finished well from the University, she is preparing to go for her Master’s degree.

“This is the first time I'm saying this in public and I know many would be shocked,” she intoned.
