The Ebonyi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has elected a new set of officers who will pilot the affairs of the union for the next three years.
The new officers were elected and inaugurated on Tuesday, April 9, at the Council Secretariat in Abakaliki, the state capital.
The newly inaugurated officers who were elected unopposed, include Tony Nwizi, Chairman; Benjamin Nworie, Vice Chairman; and Nnamdi Akpa Secretary.
Mr. Nwizi is works with the Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC).
The new Vice Chairman Benjamin Nworie is a member of the Correspondents Chapel and the state Correspondent of Thisday Newspaper.
Mr. Akpa, also a member of the Correspondents Chapel, works with The Guardian Newspaper.
Other members of the Executive are Chinaza John, NTA Chapel (Assistant Secretary) Godwin Aliuna Correspondent of Daily Post and Correspondent Chapel (Financial Secretary) Igiri Silvia, Information Chapel (Treasurer) and Juliana Okoro, Unity FM Chapel (Auditor).
While swearing-in the seven-man EXCO, the Secretary of the NUJ in charge of the Zone C (South East), Comrade Ken Ofoma, praised the Ebonyi State Council for a successful election and inauguration.
He tasked council members to lend their support to the new team, while also urging the new Executive not to allow their personal interest to override the collective interest of the union.
Speaking on behalf of the new officers, the chairman, Comrade Tony Nwizi, pledged the resolve of the new executive to sustain the tempo of good leadership of his predecessor, Veronica Osim.
He also pledged to uphold the integrity of the union by eliminating quackery and raising the image of the profession in Ebonyi.
In his remarks, the chairman of Election Credentials Committee, Dom Isute, praised the Council for a successful transition; and also commended his committee for adhering to the constitution of the Union in discharging its duties.
The election was supervised by the Senior Assistant National Secretary of NUJ, Mr. Gbemiga Bamidele.
