Mr FIVE draws battle-line with Nigeria's bad leaders in hit single TALK

A new name is currently charting high in the world of music. It is that of Mr FIVE (an acronym for Favorite International Visionary Entertainer), a Nigerian artiste based in South Africa. The young crooner (real name, Oviemo Omoregbe Ogie) has just released a hit song entitled ‘Talk’, and it is receiving strong internet air-play, just as it’s being well-received in South African night clubs.

Talk about a song that reflects the best of Afro-rhythm and blues as well as carrying a defiant message of social activism, and ‘Talk’ is one. The track can bring out the body-shaking dance in the listener, even as it piques the mind with a defiant protest against bad leadership in Nigeria.

Beginning with the hook ‘I no go quiet while my people de suffer’, Talk goes on to question the trajectory Nigerian leaders are taking the country, he goes on to lament the gerontocratic political leadership in Nigeria:‘The same people wey de rule us so, na dem dey since the 1960s.’

He equally decries the crumpled state of public infrastructure in the country as well as the poor economic condition in which Nigerians belabour.

Mr FIVEhails from a popular family in Benin City, Edo State. His uncle is the current Secretary to the Edo State Government (SSG), Mr. Osarodion Ogie, who is widely regarded as one of the few gentlemen and excellent brains in the state’s political leadership.

Coming from a politically active family,Mr FIVEadmirably continues to serve as a voice for the common man. He grew on the streets of Benin City where he remains popular, as he has not lost touch with any of the concerns of the masses.

In fact, in can be argued that such an artiste who has a voice that resonates within and outside the families of both leaders and followers is a great hope for positive change in the society. Fortunately, the current administration in Edo State – of whichMr FIVE’s uncle is a key part – is generally perceived to be doing a good job of reviving the fortunes of its people. This is confirmed by the victory of the state’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the recently concluded House of Assembly elections. Pundits saw the election as a referendum on the two-year-old administration of the State Government.

Mr FIVEis not just about talk and no action. He’s a protest singer extraordinaire; but he’s also admired as one who gives of his time and money to help many who are in need. From time to time, he supports Benin Warriors FC – a youth football club from his community – with kits and money to help the players stay engaged.

At the moment, he continues to hone his art while working to produce a full length album that would bring more of his unique delivery of voice and message for the entertainment of the listening public.

On the strength of the success so far of the single heat, Talk, it’s expected that Mr FIVE has what it takes to reach great heights in music.
