Governor MA Abubakar
A Federal High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja (Court 6) has barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from resuming collation of the gubernatorial election result for Tafawa Balewa, Bauchi, pending the hearing of the substantive suit scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, March 20, 2019.
Shamsuddeen Lukman Abubakar, Special Assistant on Communications to Governor Mohammed A. Abubakar of Bauchi State, disclosed this late Tuesday morning in a WhatsApp post.
He promised to give details later.
News Express reports that Governor Abubakar had on Monday visited President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Presidential Villa in Abuja to brief him of the electoral logjam and his decision to seek redress in court.
The Governor, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), was trailing his main challenger, Senator Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the March 9 election when the process was declared inconclusive by INEC.
However, after investigating to confirm what really happened, INEC announced that it would resume collation of the only remaining local government, Tafawa Balewa – a decision that did not go down well with APC and Governor Abubakar.
