•Samba Girl Stella Monye
Stella Monye, remember her?
The new generation of music lovers may not readily identify with that name, but the older generation can never forget a tune like “Oko mi ye”.
Stella took the Nigerian music scene by storm at teen age in the late ’80s and early ’90s.
Produced by the late “African Soldier”, Evangelist Sony Okosuns, her music career terminated abruptly, for a while, when she “carry belle” for her producer.
Stella later bounced back with the hit single “Oko mi ye” added to her scintillating stagecraft which made her fans nickname her the Samba Girl.
After that hot period, she went low again only to resurface on the social media this year (February) when she announced that she was releasing a new album with the title “Iyanu”. (Music fans will recall that Sony Okosuns also sang “Iyanu” during his life time. But I’m not insinuating anything o)
Up till the time of going to press this morning, nothing has been heard from the Samba Girl again concerning her promise.
Please whoever knows her whereabouts should inform her that a coalition of her fans are tinkering with the idea of declaring her missing if she doesn’t show up with “Iyanu” within 48 hours after reading this notice.
But Stella, I swear, my hand no dey inside o!
