The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), yesterday, released the results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates, 2019 first series.

According to the examination body, only 26.08 percent of the candidates obtained English Language and Mathematics.

The percentage of candidates in this category in the WASSCE for private candidates, 2018 – first series was 17.5 percent, showing an improvement from the results released yesterday by WAEC.

Announcing the release of the results in Lagos, Head, Nigeria National Office (HNO), Mr. Olu Adenipekun, said 12,202 candidates registered for the examination, out of which 11,892 sat for the examination.

He said of the total number of candidates who sat for the examination, 6,180 (52 percent) were male and 5,712 (48 percent) were female candidates.

He said 11,686 candidates, representing 98.27 percent have their results fully processed and released, while 206 candidates representing 1.73 percent have a few of their subjects still being processed, due to errors traceable to the candidates in the course of registration or writing the examination.

The WAEC boss explained that such errors are being corrected by the council to enable the affected candidates get their results fully processed and released, subsequently.

Giving analysis of the statistics of candidates’ performance in the examination, Adenipekun said 8,782 candidates representing 75.15 percent obtained credit and above in two subjects; 7,332 candidates representing 62.74 percent obtained credit and above in three subjects; 5,850 candidates representing 50.06 percent obtained credit and above in four subjects, while 4,314 candidates representing 36.28 percent obtained credit and above in five subjects.
