Former Governor of Anambra State and Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr. Peter Obi, has described the recent defection of four National Assembly members of the party as worrisome.

He lamented the development yesterday while responding to questions from journalists at Awka-Etiti in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State during the commissioning of a monument built in memory of four daughters of Mr. Emmanuel Obiekwe who were killed during the 2011 Christmas Day bomb blast at Madalla Catholic Church, Niger State.

The former governor called on members of APGA across the country to reflect on the way forward for the party, especially with the 2015 general elections drawing close.

Obi agreed that he ought to have intervened more seriously to stop the defection but said he did not actually know on what platform he could have done so, as his position as the APGA BoT Chairman and Leader was yet to be ratified.

On reports that he was not made a minister because he refused to join the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Obi said: “I am not desperate for appointment and I would not act or take any decision that runs contrary to my beliefs.

“I will continue to be guided by service to humanity, especially things that would be of benefit to Nigeria, rather than personal gains.”

The former governor reiterated his readiness and commitment to campaign vigorously for the re-election of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as Nigeria’s President if he decides to run in the 2015 general elections.
