Lagos CP, Imohimi Edgal
Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, says his command has got a feeler that some criminally minded persons, in police and military uniforms, are about to infiltrate the state.
He said he had ordered his men to use proportional and appropriate force, including firearms, against armed thugs during the elections.
He spoke in Lagos yesterday while addressing journalists after an inter agency consultative meeting on how to monitor the elections.
He also revealed that over 1,000 Permanent Voter’s Cardss had been retrieved from foreigners by men of the Nigerian Immigration Service.
The CP said: “We have learnt from what happened the other time during a rally and henceforth anybody going into any political rally will be thoroughly searched.
“I have ordered my Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers in the state that henceforth anybody who is found with firearms in any political gathering, neighboirhood or public places with the intent to either kill, maim or disrupt the electoral process,I have ordered my men to use proportional and appropriate force which will include the use of fire arms to ensure that such a person is arrested, demobilised and the fire arms seized.”
He said the command had updated the list of flashpoints “and where we need to deploy more manpower, resources and assets.”
