SPN FCT Chairman, Comrade Sadare Macaulay Left, with NLC protesters
The Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN), FCT Chapter, says it is mobilising support for the scheduled nationwide general strike called by the organised labour in Nigeria following the Federal Government’s failure to implement the N30,000 national minimum wage.
The SPN said this in a statement signed by its FCT Chairman, Comrade Sadare Oladimeji Macaulay, and the chairmanship candidate in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
The party said if the Federal Government can bring to an end the jumbo pay for political office holders and stop the dubious contract system, there will be enough resources to take care of the basic needs of workers and even industrialise the country.
Macaulay also said the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is as a result of Federal Government’s negligence and lack of proper funding of education, adding that the Socialist Party will mobilise against any attempt to break the strike or any plan to sell off public universities.
The party insisted that privatisation will not solve Nigeria’s problems, while advocating for the nationalisation of assets and increased public funding of infrastructure with democratic management controlled by elected representatives of workers, youth and community leaders.
Macaulay called on Nigerians to support the general strike and also stockpile food items in preparation for the anticipated long industrial action.
He said that workers, poor people and youth in Abuja should vote for the SPN in the coming Area Council election and join in building the party, which he said is the only political alternative for the working masses, youths and the unemployed.
