Boko Haram insurgents
Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have launched another attack on a military base in Buni gari village, Yobe state, where 2 soldiers, 6 militants died and many others injured, a vigilante source told Daily Trust.
His account wascorroborated by a resident.
Our correspondent gathered that the attackers stormed the military location around 5:45pm on Saturday and started shooting at the military base
“The ferocious firefight had left 2 soldiers, 6 militants dead and many others injured. The insurgent nearly overran the base if not for the reinforcement from 27 task force brigade, Buni yadi,” a vigilante said.
He complained that the military must change their pattern of operation to take the war to the insurgents not to always be on the defensive.
“We all knew where the insurgents are, they are not too far from this place, let’s take the war to them,” he revealed.
He also revealed that the insurgents, in a fleet of twelve gun-trucks, are currently in Ngirbua village where they rustled herds of cattle from herdsmen.
“One of the Fulani man is here with us, and he is willing to take us there,” he said.
The attack on the military base in Yobe state is the second in 26 days. The last insurgents attack happened on November 7, 2018 in Katarko town where they overran the military base and set it ablaze.
A resident in the town said that the insurgents came in large number around magrib prayer (5:45pm) and opened fire on the military.
“We all scampered for safety, no harm was done to us (residents). Our houses and everyone in the town was not affected. But, two soldiers lost their lives and some got injured. We also learnt that 6 insurgents were killed” he said.
