A sinister plot by Boko Haram terrorists to launch devastating attacks on Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja, has been uncovered.
Coordinator of the National Information Centre, and Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. Mike Omeri, disclosed this while updating newsmen yesterday on the war against terror.
He disclosed that Boko Haram plans to use patrol tankers for the attacks and advised security agencies to beef up check operations on petrol tankers so as to avert the evil plan by the insurgents.
“The Nigerian security services have received intelligence report to the effect that insurgents intend seizing petrol tankers and plant Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the tankers and drive them to crowded places in Abuja,” Omeri said.
He advised members of the Petrol Tankers Association to be extra vigilant and to report any attempt or seizure of their vehicles to the security agencies.
Omeri also advised members of the public to report any broken-down tanker in any part of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to security agencies.
“We are using this opportunity to appeal to the public to be on the alert, particularly when they see any tanker driving dangerously,” he stated.
Though Boko Haram has the North-East as its stronghold, it has succeeded in occasionally attacking some other parts of the North, including Abuja.
