PDP Presidential running mate, Peter Obi
The city of Awka, Anambra State capital, was agog yesterday evening following the news of former governor Peter Obi being picked as the running mate to the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) presidential flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar for next year’s general election.
Most sit-out joints within the capital were taken over by jubilant crowds and fans of the former governor whom many see as the most ideal candidate for the position in the southeast.
Even in the market, traders were seen discussing the emergence of Obi as the vice presidential candidate to PDP, saying that they are the pair to unseat President Buhari.
In his reaction, the former governorship candidate of PDP, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, said: “Atiku made the right choice in Peter Obi.
“Nigerians prayers are answered, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, has made the right choice in picking Peter Obi as his running mate.
“Atiku has just exhibited the ability to make hard-headed decision required of purposeful leaders.
“Let’s get Nigeria working again. God bless Atiku, God bless Peter Obi and God bless Nigeria.”
On his part, an Awka based businessman, Henry Nwune, said that with Obi as a vice president to Atiku, Nigeria will experience an economic boom.
He said: “Obi is a master economist; remember what he did as a governor of Anambra State for eight years, so you can imagine when such good work is replicated at the national level. It is in indeed a happy day for us in Anambra State and PDP members. Atiku made the best choice.”
