3 Imo APGA guber aspirants may defect to SDP

Following the inability of the aggrieved governorship aspirants of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) to resolve the crisis arising from the botched primary election of the party, three aspirants of the party have concluded plans to defect to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) with their supporters.

The Daily Sun exclusively gathered that the three aspirants concluded their plans after a closed-door meeting with State Working Committee of the party, on Thursday.

According to a reliable source in the party, the three aspirants opted for SDP because of its people-oriented manifesto, and grassroots support.

Further, the aspirants said the SDP is the now most credible party in the state with formidable party structures at the grass root and better chances of winning the Governorship election in the State and other elective positions in the forthcoming general election.

The aspirants had vowed to invest every available human and material resource within their disposal to make sure SDP win the governorship seat in 2019.

When contacted, the state’s Publicity Secretary of the SDP, Chilos Godsent, confirmed the speculation, but refused to mention the name of the aspirants.

He added that the aspirants do not care if they get the governorship ticket or not but maintained that they are interested in getting back at APGA.

It would be recalled that Guber aspirants of APGA had earlier threatened the national leadership of the party of mass defection into other parties if their problems bothering from the botched primary of the party is not resolved.
