Kinsmen of former President Goodluck Jonathan in Ogbia Constituency 1, Ogbia local government area have dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Advanced Peoples Democratic Party (APDP) over allegations of hijack of the PDP structure by godfathers.
The kinsmen of the former President. led by aspirant in the just-concluded House of Assembly primaries, Barr. Azibataman Johnbull, in a press conference, on Saturday, at Ebis Hotel Yenagoa, expressed regrets that some political godfathers working with opposition elements have conspired to produce a weak candidate so as to embarrass Jonathan and Governor Henry Seriake Dickson in the 2019 general election.
According to them, the godfathers are angry with Governor Dickson over his decision to consult majority of the stakeholders instead of a select few which has been the age long practise.
“The PDP fell into a grave error and lost an ample opportunity to free our people from the grip of these individuals and their godfathers.
“The party rather chose to entrust our flag to those who had consistently worked to undermine our party and the government of Governor Henry Seriake Dickson.
“They have tried on different fronts to run our Governor down. The greatest crime the Governor committed was his decision to interface directly with majority of our people of our people as against the age-long tradition of consulting a select few and their godfathers.
“Having exposed their egoistic tendencies, they have now resorted to blackmail and inciting our people against the governor because to them the governor is responsible for their loss of goodwill and rejection by the people.”
Johnbull who accused the said political elements of serving the political interests of sworn enemies of Jonathan and Dickson pointed out that they are not concerned about the success of the party in the general elections.
He explained that APDA is a focused party that would serve the interest of Ogbia constituency 1.
