No fewer than two people have been reportedly killed and properties damaged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) holds its primary election for members of the House of Representatives in Lagos Mainland Constituency.
It was gathered that the election has created panic among residents of the area.
Eyewitnesses said that those killed were known supporters of Olorunleke Olusola, who is competing with Hon. Jide Jimoh for the party’s ticket.
Some of the supporters of Olusola, popularly known as Kowope, alleged that they were been harassed.
However, one of the leading contenders of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Lagos Mainland Constituency 1 ticket, Hon. Abdulahi Dayo Isreal, has called for calm.
ADI, who is contesting under the platform of APC, urged the party faithful and the teaming population of mainland especially the youth to shun every act of violence in the scheduled party primaries.
He said this in a press statement to react to the reported deaths in the area.
The statement read: “In view of the report gathered across the Lagos mainland constituency that violence has erupted leading to the death of two persons and destroying of properties thereby intimidating the people and creating fear in the minds of the electorates whom he believes knows the best candidates to represent them at the state and National assembly respectively.
“Dayo Isreal appeals to all aspirants and party leaders to sheath their sword and advise their followers to do same so as not to bring back our communities to the old horror days where violence where inflicted on innocent electorates who are willing to cast their vote wisely to choose who represents them.”
ADI further reiterated his strong believe of having a better chance of clinching the party ticket to contest the Lagos House of Assembly “if the electorates are given the free will to vote in an atmosphere of peaceful conduct to produce a more credible candidate who will bring the much-vaunted development.”
