Community residents weep after renewed killings in Plateau
No fewer than 13 people were murdered last weekend when violence broke out at Tina Junction, Angwan Rukuba and Kagu village in Regizah, Naraguta community of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State. District head, Regizah of Naraguta community, Yakubu Bala Shishok, who lost two persons from his household, told newsmen that he escaped death narrowly when his house was set on fire by the attackers.
Shishok said nine persons were killed in his family compound; his 82-year-old mother escaped, while three persons were killed at the Baptist Church.
Meanwhile, Governor Simon Lalong has ordered heads of security agencies in the state to step up efforts to stop the violence and fish out the perpetrators. In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mark Longyen, the governor summoned the security chiefs at Government House, Jos, with a view to stopping the unrest and finding lasting solutions to the killings.
The governor charged security agencies to show professionalism in the course of their duty and observe the rules of engagement in their efforts to maintain law and order.
