Senator Ekwunife

Ward Chairmen of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Anambra State have thrown their weight behind Senator Uche Ekwunife for 2019 senatorial election in Anambra State, describing her as the only aspirant that has what it takes to win election in the zone.

Recall that Ekwunife, whose tenure at the red chambers was aborted following a court ruling, decided to contest after the Minister of Labour and Employment, who is also the party' leader in the state, bought the APC party nomination form for her.

The 109 Ward Chairmen described the aborted tenure of Ekwunife as a negative incident that denied the zone the democratic dividends of being the Senate committee chairman on Down Steam Petroleum.

A motion moved by ward Chairman for Nri ward 2, Sir Benjamin Ajagu, and seconded by ward Chairman for Obosi Mr. Chijioke Edogbue, was unanimously upheld by the rest of the chairmen.

According to them, Ekwunife is a politician that can win election in any political party. The chairmen said, 'We, the 109 ward Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress APC, after brainstorming deliberations resolved as follows, "That, we see Uche Ekwunife as the only candidate in our party, APC, with the capacity and grassroot structure to win the Anambra Central election in any political party.'

"That her eight-year tenure in the Federal House of Representatives was a harvest of populist and purposeful representation. That her short stay in the Senate was one that showed a representation that carried the seven Local Government Areas of Anambra Central along.

'We are still nursing the wounds of how her tenure in the Senate was aborted by litigations of the APGA candidate who only got Deputy Senate committee chairman on labour, while Ekwunife was Senate committee chairman on Down Steam Petroleum which the zone and South East would have gained bountifully'

The chairmen further urged the state chapter of APC and all the delegates for the primary election to endorse Ekwunife as candidate of the party, adding that she has the drive and followership to beat all opposition party candidates.
