The National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has cancelled Tuesday’s governorship primaries in Lagos and Imo states, postponing the processes indefinitely.
The chairman of the electoral committee for the Lagos Governorship Primary, Dr. Clement Ebri, announced the postponement of the primary election in the state at a press conference on Tuesday evening.
The electoral committee had earlier in the afternoon dissociated itself from the election going on at different wards in the state, saying that it was yet to receive electoral materials from the party’s head office in Abuja.
A former governor of Lagos State and national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, had openly endorsed Mr Jide Sanwo-Olu to contest the governorship seat, citing alleged non-adherence to the developmental blueprint for the state as a reason for his opposition to the sitting governor, Mr Akinwumi Ambode.
In the case of Imo State, the NWC announced the indefinite suspension of the primaries just as reports made the rounds that Senator Hope Uzodinma had won the vote.
APC Acting National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, who made the announcement in a statement, also announced the postponement of the party’s Senate primaries in the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to Wednesday, October 3, 2018.
The party further revealed that it has not cleared the former Inspector-General of Police, (IGP) Suleiman Abba, to contest APC Jigawa South Senatorial District Primaries.
Suleiman Abba’s name was erroneously included in the list of NWC-cleared aspirants.
