Late Senator Dafinone
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has mourned two great sons of the state, Senator David Omueya Dafinone and Chief Sunny Okogwu, both of whom died over the weekend.
He condoled with the leadership of Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU) and the Urhobo nation in general over the passing, at aged 91 years, of Dafinone, an accomplished accountant, administrator, politician and elder statesman.
Okowa in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Aniagwu, commiserated with the Urhobo nation, Okpe kingdom, the Dafinone family and friends over the sad incident.
He said that his demise had deprived the nation of the wisdom and wise counsel he had always brought into service. The Governor believed that as a former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dafinone’s sacrifice and contributions to national development as well as his huge investments in agriculture in the state would be fondly remembered.
It reads in part: “As Deltans and Nigerians mourn the illustrious Urhobo leader, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa conveys his heart-felt condolences to his family, the people of the Delta Central Senatorial Zone whom he ably represented in the Senate.
“As they mourn his death, Governor Okowa urges Chief Dafinone’s family, relatives and political associates to be comforted by the knowledge that he lived a worthy and exemplary life, leaving behind worthy legacies that will assure his place in posterity.”
The statement added that his family’s world record of family with most chartered accountants still remain unbroken till his death.
Also this morning, Governor Okowa commiserated with the Asagba-In-Council and the people of Asaba over the loss of Okogwu, a renowned industrialist, philanthropist and ex-presidential candidate.
The Governor in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Aniagwu, described the deceased as an industrialist and philanthropist who spent his entire life in service of humanity, especially in helping the underprivileged in his native Asaba and Sabon-Gaya Community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Governor Okowa also extended his heartfelt sympathy to the Black Gold Organisation, business associates and family members of the departed.
“On behalf of my family, the government and people of Delta State, I commiserate with the Okogwu family of Ogbe-Ogo village, Umu-Onaje quarters Asaba, the Asagba-in-Council over the painful loss of our leader and father, Chief Sunny Okogwu”.
According to him, “The life and times of the industrialist and philanthropist deserve documentation for posterity as he defied many odds to courageously set up many companies that provided job opportunities for the youths of our country.”
The Governor further commended the late Ojise of Asaba for his patriotism, wisdom and discipline, which he said clearly translated into his many awards as a foremost business man, administrator and entrepreneur of high repute.
He prayed that the Almighty God receives the soul of the departed, and comfort his family.
