The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) on Wednesday appealed to the Federal government to ensure the immediate release of Leah Sharibu and the remaining Chibok girls with the hindsight of the death of an aid girl Saifura Khorsa that was kidnapped six months ago. The terrorist issued a statement two days ago, threatened to harm Sharibu, Chibok and Dapchi girls.

The Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate of the church, His Grace, The Most Reverend Nicholas D. Okoh made the passionate plea at the church's Standing Committee meeting holding at St. Peter's Cathedral Church, Minna, Niger State.

The Primate maintained that conscious and deliberate efforts should be made to bring the ordeal of the captive girls, their parents and families to an end by ensuring the freedom of the innocent girls. He declared: " I plead with the government that no sacrifice will be too much to get them out alive else the revise will be a black spot in our history".

The one-week meeting which is having in attendance over 1,000 delegates made up of houses of bishops, priests, and laity have as its theme: "God, Our Refuge And Strength ".

Primate Okoh in his charge catalogued how in Nigeria - the whole world inclusive- are presently embroiled in multiple disasters that are putting the human race in fears of destruction. "Breaking News of disasters, both natural and man-made and increased fear. We are indeed living in a highly traumatized world" he declared.

However, the Primate said as Christians we should not be disillusioned " because God wants us to know that in an insecure Nigeria, we do have peace and security in Him".

The Primate commended government's efforts at addressing the welfare of the nation's workforce but persuaded government to earnestly look into the review of minimum wage with a view to reducing the poverty level in the country.

On the forthcoming 2019 general elections, the Primate admonished political office seekers and indeed the political leaders to be conscious in seeking for power at all costs that power comes only from God adding that they should be cautious in their electioneering campaigns towards next year general polls.

"In whatever we do, the peace of the nation must be preserved because, in a war situation, everybody will be affected," the clergyman advised.

He also called on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain an unbiased umpire, and should avoid anything that will disenfranchise any eligible Nigerian while he charged members of the Armed forces and other security agencies to be fair to all concern.

Though the Church recognised the giant strides made with the passage and signing into law of "the not too young to run bill", Primate Okoh expressed concern that this development might not solve our political problems automatically but challenged the younger generation to continue to aspire for leadership positions and responsibilities.
