A coalition of Nigerian youth groups has demanded drastic reduction in the cost of nomination forms by the various political parties in the country so as to make the forms affordable by more people, especially youths who lack the resources available to older politicians.
The demand was made via a statement issued on Saturday National Youths Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC) and Progressive Students Movement (PSM).
The statement jointly signed by Comr. Okereafor Bestman Opeyemi (PSM Nigeria President), Murtala Muhammad (Nigerian Youths Congress Chairman) and NYCN Deputy President Innocent Nduanya said that the youths have agreed on the following prices for the nomination forms for all political parties:
Presidential: N5 million
Governorship: N2.5 million
Senate: N1.8 million
House of Reps N900,000
State house of assemblies: N500,000
Local Govt Chairman: N200,000.
Councillor: N20,000
“This is what is acceptable to Nigerian youths. We shall support any party that adopts it for the interest of over 130 million Nigerian youths,” the statement said.
