Months of bickering between the Executive and Legislature that unnecessarily delayed the implementation of the 2014 Budget finally ended this morning when President Goodluck Jonathan signed the budget at the Presidential Vila in Abuja this morning.
Paul C Nwabuikwu, Special Adviser to the Coordinating Minister and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, said the President put pen to paper “after going through the statutory legislative processes.”
Nwabuikwu in a short statement issued in Abuja said Okonjo-Iweala and Director General of the Budget Office, Dr. Bright Okogwu, will give details about the budget this afternoon during a media briefing at the Conference Room of the Federal Ministry of Finance.
In refusing to sign the budget as earlier passed the national Assembly, President Jonathan had accused the lawmakers of distorting the N4.642 trillion bill he sent to them for appropriation, including raising the estimated total spend for the year by some N53 billion to N4.695 trillion.
