Senator Olugbenga Obadara
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Commercialization and Privatization at the Seventh Senate, Senator Olugbenga Obadara, on Tuesday declared his intention to run for Ogun Central senatorial seat in the 2019 general elections under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Senator Obadara, who made his declaration at the APC State Secretariat in Abeokuta, noted that the forthcoming elections will be based on what has been done by the contestants.
“We are at a point in which the people no longer trust politicians who make promises on what they will do. It is about what you have done and can do better,” he said.
He noted that during his time at the Senate between 2011-2015, he was able to facilitate 133 projects in Ogun Central with a promise to do better if given the ticket by the party.
Senator Obadara said: “I am grateful for the opportunity Ogun Central gave me to serve them and to the glory of God, we were able to attract 133 projects in across the senatorial district and we added six (6) even after leaving office.”
The Odeda-born politician, however, expressed his desire to drop his ambition and support Governor Ibikunle Amosun, should the governor also indicate interest in the seat.
“Our Governor has tried a lot with several projects to show for it, so I will drop my ambition and support him if he indicates a desire to run because he is a ranking senator too,” Obadara said.
He concluded by calling on the party men to support him get the ticket when the time is right noting that he would not misuse the opportunity.
“I appreciate everyone for being here and testifying to what we did when we had the opportunity. I want to plead for your support and assure you that I will not misuse the opportunity to serve if given same once more,” Obadara said.
