The Spokesperson of Atiku Presidential Campaign Office, Segun Showunmi, has reacted to the kidnap of Senator representing Kogi West, Senator Dino Melaye, who was reportedly abducted by gunmen this morning in Abuja.

“It is a national embarrassment that even a Senator of the Federal Republic is no longer safe in his own country again,” he said.

“It is with rude shock that I receive the news of his abduction on this day, 26th July 2018. I mean, what sort of national embarrassment is this?”

Showunmi called on the security agencies to do the needful and ensure Senator Melaye regains his freedom without any ado or hesitation.

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, who represents Bayelsa East, broke the news of Melaye’s abduction on Thursday morning via his Twitter handle.

He revealed that he got the information from Melaye’s brother who said the lawmaker was reportedly kidnapped this morning after the gunmen attacked them on their way to Kogi State.

Melaye was among the senators who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday.

He is facing separate charges for allegedly aiding criminals and attempted suicide and was billed to appear in court on Thursday.
