Probe security siege on Saraki, Ekweremadu, Turaki urges President

Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN

Frontline PDP presidential aspirant and former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari as the Chief Protector of the nation to direct investigation into the siege by security agents on the official residences of the Senate President and his deputy.

Turaki made the call the PDP secretariat in Awka while speaking with party leaders, delegates and other members as part of his nationwide consultations ahead of his party’s national convention.

The Presidential Aspirant who said that he did not want to believe that the presidency had a hand in the matter, advised that any person found wanting in the unfortunate incident should be dealt with appropriately.

We in PDP, he stressed, will fight to ensure that the country’s hard-earned democracy was not truncated.

He noted that the defections by APC senators and members of the House of Representatives to strengthen the PDP at the National Assembly indicated that there was hope for a better and stable country for Nigerians when the PDP wins in 2019.

He noted also that the development has confirmed to the international community that Nigerians can take their destiny in their own hands at critical moments.

The Aspirant assured the defectors and those still on the way of a level playing ground to pursue their legitimate aspirations, noting that after all, they were members of the same political family before joining APC and returning ‘home’ later.

Turaki used the occasion to further reinforce his belief in restructuring. He declared: “This is a pledge I made in my honour. There is no option to restructuring whether from the perspective of true federalism, fiscal federalism, devolution of power, resource control or state police.”

He pledged to set up a committee right at the inauguration venue to address the issue of an additional state for the South East if he gets his party’s mandate and eventually wins the presidential election.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria stressed that there must be justice if we want peace.

He added that his government would take a look at the constitution in conjunction with the National Assembly and other stakeholders where necessary, noting that the law is supposed to serve the people and not the people to serve the law.

The chairman, PDP Anambra State, Sir Ndubisi Nwobu, and a former Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, Barrister Emeka Anyaenetu, expressed satisfaction with Turaki’s pedigree and his understanding of the country’s problems and solutions which he outlined to solve them.

The presidential aspirant had earlier visited the Abia State PDP secretariat in Umuahia on a similar consultation, where he said that the defections at the National Assembly were indications that the journey had started by Nigerians to reclaim their country from maladministration, unwarranted killings, poverty, despotism and hopelessness in the hands of APC.

He said that God has given Nigerians the power through their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) to change their destiny for the better.

The state PDP chairman, Chief Johnson Onuigbo, a.k.a. Akinboard, noted that Turaki’s speech gave the hope. “It is with a person like you that our marginalisation can be addressed, but we leave everything to God,” he concluded.
