A special security meeting is in progress at the Aso Presidential Villa over last night’s devastating bomb blast in Nyanya, a suburb of Abuja.
Presidential spokesman Reuben Abati tweeted minuets ago: “President Jonathan summons security chiefs to a special security meeting following bomb blast at Nyanya. Meeting on-going at the Villa.”
Government has confirmed 19 dead and 31 injured by the blast, which happened around 8pm near a police checkpoint and opposite the bus station bombed by Boko Haram in the morning of April 14, officially killing 75 people and injuring over 200.
Eye witnesses said the suspected bomber of last night packed a white Volkswagen Golf car in the vicinity of Wazobia Park and walked away, shortly after which the bomb went off, meaning that the car had been rigged with explosives.
Abuja came under terrorist attacks in 2010, 2011 and 2012 but security agents were able to prevent any blasts last year.
