Omisore picks SDP guber form as party opens new office

Sen Iyiola Omisore

Sen. Iyiola Omisore has picked the Osun State governorship nomination form of the Social Democratic Party (PDP) at the party’s new secretariat which was opened yesterday.

Speaking during the occasion, Omisore said that he planned to contest the September 22 gubernatorial election because his home State was currently under intensive care.

He expressed optimism that he would emerge as the candidate of the SDP and went ahead to become the party’s first governor in his State.

“By God’s grace, we will deliver. We give any political party coming to challenges us at the poll 30-0,” he also said.

Omisore added, “Courts have installed more governors in this country than politicians and the people. They have taken advantages of the problem in the system and lack of awareness of our public. I am here as a Democrat from Osun State. I was in detention and I won election in this county. Nigerians do not celebrate history. And I won every polling unit in 2002.

“Osun state is the worst governed state in this country. The state is in the intensive care now and it needs someone with experience, a person who has done it before to emerge and govern the state. I am sure that very soon, I will emerge as the governor in Osun State. I will do my best to emerge through a free and fair primary.

“We should put the past issues behind us and move forward and I promise the party, Nigerians and the people of Osun State that I will not fail. On any issue in this country, I have a position and I do not sit on the fence. I have controlled the masses of Osun State for more than two decades. It can only be God. We will deliver Osun State to SDP. Nigerians are tired of PDP and other parties. This party will form national government in 2019.”

Omisore picked holes in the current debts profile of Osun State under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government.

The SDP national secretary, Alhaji Shehu Gabam, in his remarks, promised that the party would conduct a free and fair governorship primary election.

“We are convinced that Omisore will deliver Osun State to SDP. Whatever we do in the party we subject it to the feelings of Nigerians. By God's grace, SDP will provide the next president of Nigeria in 2019.

“The party will provide level playing field ground and conduct a free and fair primary in Osun State. We believe in the independence of legislature, judiciary and the executive. We will never be supportive of any act that will intimidate the National Assembly. We urge the present administration to allow democracy to grow,” said Gabam.

One of the party’s national leaders, Prof. Jerry Gana, who was at the party secretariat for its commissioning, said the SDP would adopt a direct primary system.

Gana said every member of the party in Osun State would be eligible to participate in the process to elect the SDP governorship candidate.

He also said the SDP would last beyond 2019.

Gana said, “this party is a very serious party. If you are going to transform Nigeria the party structure must be organized. Nigerian should be ready for SDP to transform the nation from poverty to prosperity.

“The SDP has put together some of the best brains in the land. We will give meaning to governance that produces development. Your vote will count in Osun State and we shall win again.”
