Tears, joy as NIM, June 12 Movement celebrate Abiola

Tuesday, June 12, 2018 will be remembered for a long time when the June 12 Movement of Nigeria, in collaboration with the Nigeria Intervention Movement (NIM), converged on Lagos for the 25th year remembrance of the slain politician cum businessman Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.

During the event attended by youth and student union leaders, market women, workers from the 20 local government areas in Lagos, activists, opinion leaders, top politicians and some presidential aspirants, topical issues were discussed as to ways of moving the country forward from the present doldrums just as tears flowed freely in the jam packed hall at the Ikeja family house of the Abiolas when notable personalities traced the history of the thorny road of struggle that led to the death of MKO Abiola in detention while trying to claim his mandate from the annulled 1993 presidential election which he was believed to have won.

The multi-dimensional event which commenced with a red carpet reception hosted by star actress Foluke Daramola featured tributes and solidarity messages, keynote address by Dr. Abdul Tafawa Balewa, interface with 2019 presidential aspirants present, hoisting of the flag for the MKO Abiola Democracy House, laying of wreath and prayers for the nation.

Top personalities who graced the epic event include Alhaji Abdul Abiola (son of the slain politician), Alhaji Abdul Tafawa Balewa, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba(chairman of the occasion), Veteran Wale Okunniyi (convener of the event), Professor Anthony Kila (chairman planning committee), Segun Mayegun, Mike Iginmi(Residential Electoral Commissioner, Rivers State), Mallam Nasir Kura (NIM deputy director general), Professor Lakin Akintola, Mr Chris (who represented Prophet T. B Joshua), Mrs Chima Ubani, son of late Frank Kokori, Chief Mrs Temitope Ajayi aka Mama Diaspora, Hadjia Khairat Animasaun(NIM director of organisation, Ronnie Dikko (Nollywood actor), and many others.

Presidential aspirants who made presentations at the event include Mrs Ela Shema, Omoyele Sowore, Lanre Akintola, Dr. Shina Fagbenro(KOWA party), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar (represented by Fabiyi Oladimeji) and Dr. Thomas Wilson Ikumese (Alliance for New Nigeria), among others.

The event ended on a joyous note as guests danced and gyrated to music churned out by the guest band.
