A gallant Nigerian soldier attached to 120 Battalion in Yobe state, successfully disarmed an armed robbery suspect of an AK-47 rifle along Lafia-Makurdi road, in Benue state on Wednesday.

The Nigerian Army’s spokesman, Texas Chukwu confirmed the soldiers' bravery in a press statement in Abuja on Thursday.

Mr Chukwu said that the incident happened when the soldier was attacked by a group of armed robbers in the vehicle in which he was travelling.

He also noted that the soldier sustained injury in the process, but eventually succeeded in dispossessing the robber of the AK-47 rifle and five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Mr Chukwu confirmed that the soldier is currently in a good shape. He said: “The soldier is currently receiving medical attention.”
