The unending face-off between the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, and the National Assembly, NASS, took a new twist at the weekend with the redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, NASS Police Divisional Headquarters, CSP Sulu-Ganbari Abdul to the Adamawa State Police Command with an immediate effect.

According to a signal released to this effect signed by the Force Secretary, AIG Abdul Buba, in Abuja on Saturday on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, IGP, the redeployment of the DPO took effect from that Saturday.

The DPO was recently deployed to the NASS at the wake of the crisis between the Senate and the IGP on Senator Misau Ahmad whom the police claimed deserted the Force which led to the then DPO to the Ekiti State Police Command.

No reason was given for the immediate removal of the DPO

The DPO had two weeks ago appeared before a Committee set up by the Senate on the theft of the Mace of the Upper Chamber of the NASS by some thugs who invaded the Chamber recently.

While appearing before the panel, the DPO who personally arrested for members of the gang that invaded the Complex n his submission ‎ said that the Security of the NASS was compromised on the day in question.

He also revealed that the Police recovered an Identification Card of Kogi state Government House inside the Vehicle recovered from the arrested during searching.

‎The DPO further said that investigation revealed that the security allowed the suspects entrance to the complex having been cleared they were in Company of a serving Senator

‎A member of the Senate Committee probing the Mace theft confirmed in confidence the knowledge of the rumour making the round about the redeployment of the Police officer while the investigation into the serious National issue was still in progress and wondered why the horridness.

Efforts to speak With the Force Public Relations. Officer, FPRO, ACP Jimoh Moshood on the matter proved abortive, however another very Senior Police at the Force Headquarters who spoke with our Reporter confirmed it under anonymity, saying that the Commissioners of Police in the various ‎commands “are usually responsible for the posting of their officers and men in their Commands and not the IGP”.
