TheAll Progressive Congress (APC) in Iwo, headquarters of Iwo Federal Constituency, Osun State has received 1,000 members ofPeoples' Democratic Party (PDP) who defected to the ruling party in the state.
The PDP members were received by APC chieftains during anempowerment program organized by Oluomo of Feesu, Iwo, Chief Diekola Ismail Adefowope which washeld at Iwo City Hall.
A former PDP stalwart who led other members of the party to APC, Mr Ajao Muritala Olaleye said their his decision to dump the opposition was as a result of impunity and lack of internal democracy in PDP.
The event was attended by huge crowd including prominent politicians in the area, traditional rulers, religious leaders, political groups, artisans and student leaders.
At the event, Adefowope donateda brand new Mistubushi L300 bus tothe Federation of Iwoland Students Union (FILSU). He also donated35 grinding machines, 10 standing fans, 11 sewing machines, barbing and wheelchairs among others items to beneficiaries drawn fromIwo, Ayedire and Ola Oluwa local government areas.
In his remarks, the state governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesolaapplauded Adefowope for the gesture and assured the new party members that APC would treat them well.
Aregbesola who was represented by his Commissionerfor Special Duties, Mr Mudashiru Toogun said the major difference between APC and other political parties is corruption and charged the new members to distinguish themselves and be loyal to the party. (Daily Trust)
